OK.  The Democratic controlled congress and Senate are in full swing after 6 long years of a one party control.  Our country is always on top when there is a shared power and we have seen the devistating effects in recent years...Iraq War, acceleration of Global Warming, money funneling to the ultra rich (70% of tax breaks to the top 5%, conversly 6.5% of tax breaks go to the bottom 80% ), etc.  A new order is in town and we have seen such drastic changes like focus on rebuilding the Gulf South and a stand on increased troops in Iraq.

Who knows?  This current American government could somehow find common ground in the latest budget and actually reduce the huge budget and actually balance it. Well, maybe in a few years.  Let's be realistic.

I have a found hope in America once again with this new direction and I was wondering how the rest of you feel.

We, the voters of America, actually fired the GOP controlled Congress because of a track record of corruption, ineptitude, abdication of oversight, and the gut feeling that the GOP had become completely disjoined from reality. In simpler terms, people didn't vote for a Democratic Party majority - they voted against failed GOP policies. Let's hope, therefore, that the new Democratic controlled Congress and Senate proves to be a mighty force in change. Hopefully, that change will include an end to increasing our troops in Iraq, and somehow getting us out of there completely.

It will take a new president to get us out of Iraq completely since he is the Commander in Chief and that is his constitutional right. Hopefully, we will get a President that will realize that we need to end our addiction to oil before we can end this mess in the Middle East.

So, how do we get out of Iraq completely? Is a timetable the answer? I know that if I were an American soldier and was told to go to the front lines, but that there was now a timetable in place, what incentive would I have to risk my life? If we're really serious about stopping oil dependency, then the American government should either a) ration the amount of gasoline that each person is allowed to purchase; or b) prohibit any car being sold in this country without a minimum of 30 miles per gallon, preferably both.

A timetable is a step in the right direction because at least we know that our troops ARE getting out. Right now, Bush says that we have to stay until we "win". Well, how do you define a "win" when our troops are nothing more than foreign police in the middle of a civil war! How do you "win" in a situation like that. This war does not work that way. Basically, what I am saying is that we cannot win the war on terror since the whole term "war on terror" is bullshit! We cannot quell terrorism though military might, it needs diplomacy and we have lost all credibility on that front thanks to Bush. So here is my plan:

1. Get Bush out of office
2. Challenge all Americans to wean ourselves off of foreign oil (Yes, all oil and coal would be best, but foreign oil is an easier sell)
3. Fund research and development for new technologies to make cars and homes more energy efficient
4. Vastly increase tax incentives for energy efficiency and "green" power
5. Tell everyone in the Middle East (especially Saudi Arabia) that we will no longer meddle in their business since we have no use for their oil anymore
