How would you feel now if you were a soldier in Iraq for the past four years? At first, it felt like the Americans were making Iraq a better place to live. Saddam was gone in 2003, and there was no sectarian violence. But, unfortunately, our guys don't see the same level of committment from the Iraqi army units they're partnered with. In fact, this past February, our soldiers killed a man setting a roadside bomb, which, when identified, turned out to be a sergeant in the Iraqi army. In other words, we're helping guys who are trying to kill us. Yipes! It has to be totally depressing to be a believer in the mission, when most soldiers see a conflict which has become a civil war, one which looks impossible to end. |
